50 percent of the people in the world live in cities. This is what makes urban agriculture so important.
The definition of urban agriculture, as said by Wikipedia, is the practice of cultivating, processing and distributing food in, or around, a village, town or city. This benefits cities in two major ways:
- It dramatically increases the amounts of food available to the people living in cities.
- It allows access to fresh fruits and vegetables and some meat products available to city dwellers.
Urban farming produces many jobs as well as a form of income, which can help the economy in cities worldwide. It helps fight hunger in cities for less fortunate people. Urban farming helps to reduce energy use because the foods do not need to be transported as far.
